  •  Thank you for (0+ / 0-)

    your armchair assessment.

    •  this is the danger of "armchair" assessment - (0+ / 0-)

watching the ENTIRE video - the officer said that the cyclist was NOT "dragged" - yet the group started "mic checking" that he WAS dragged.

the officer AFTER giving his witness report to the police THEN told the videographer what happened.

i see hysteria and unreasonable demands and outright misrepresentation of facts in this video.

as the videographer says - NOT a satisfactory answer....

      not at all!

i object strenuously to her making the statements that are incendiary (publicity hogging fox news type) of comments that the driver who stuck the cyclist was "amused".

      wrong.

      wrong.

      wrong.!

and i hope the cyclist is okay - that's a tough situation to be in.

    •  horace - the importance of ANY (0+ / 0-)

movement is credibility - and this woman is doing a disservice to what you and others are trying to accomplish.

listen impartially to her words - listen to the officer's description of what he saw - he said point blank that the cyclist was in the crosswalk and had the right of way - he supported the injured cyclist - stayed until a report was filed - but the woman still is unprofessional - NOT a real journalist - NOT impartial - NOT someone who is trying to present the truth in any means.  she has an agenda.

PLEASE take an objective view - that is why i keep trying to point out that for the occupy movement to have success - credibility is critical!

I wonder why some folks think it is their life's work to undermine other diarists.

        •  I don't think Horace is being "undermined"... (2+ / 0-)

He posted the video for the forum's information.

Commentary and debate about the contents are fair.

          •  thank you. as strange as it may seem to many (3+ / 0-)

here, i DO support the premise of occupy - very strongly.  it is in the tactics of SOME of those protesting where i part company.

that doesn't mean that i do not support what the movement stands for or why it is important.  i want to see it succeed - and that depends on the movement maintaining credibility with the larger audience.

overstatement or gross exaggeration in some of the Occupy posts and vids.

I've been burnt enough times with representations that simply haven't stood reasonable scrutiny that I enter most dairies with a bit of a cynical approach and then look for the facts.

That being said what Horace does is provide "instant" news that we can examine and come to our own conclusion. I hardly think Horace is responsible for the actions of every character in these videos.

This particular video, in my opinion, does not show this small group of protestors in the best light...a few of the comments were truly cringe worthy and the "reporter" simply failed on many fronts.

Hopefully the young gentleman will be okay.

and i hope he is going to be okay, too (and i hope he has a VERY good chiropracter!)

why i hold horace to task in his diaries is because of his passion - i don't want to see that passion discredited or destroyed by these kinds of misrepresentations.

the "reporter" isn't one - she holds a camera, asks biased questions and is no better at what she is doing than fox news is - and that hurts what the movement is trying to accomplish.

when i worked at cbs radio network news years ago (not as a reporter, as an admin assistant for the network vp, ombudsman, head of special events and more, even i had to sign the standards and practices manual that i would in no way interfere or color the news.

the ability to be an impartial presenter of fact is lost on the current people who think that holding a camera makes them the new uncle walt (with whom, i also worked as well as doug edwards and many others you all are probaby too young to remember).

that is what disturbs me about the livestream - it is propaganda - whether it is ours or "theirs" - it is STILL propaganda.  that diminishes the real story that needs to be told.

thanks for your feedback - i really appreciate it.

for ows - not true or accurate reporting. i wish people around here would get that.

that propaganda stands for good or for bad that counts.

the same way some folks react to the word "manipulation" as negative, it isn't.  it is the movement of ideas and ideology to a common area of agreement.

if/when horace realizes that the truth will stand on its own merit (without the "colorization" of fact by loud groups who speak in unison as if that makes a non-fact true by virtue of majority rule), then the movement will stagnate.

i WANT to see this debate over income inequality continued - the injustices brought about in our modern society by republicans (YES, it IS political - just look at the virginia mandatory rape law - republicans).

until the masses understand that THEIR vote matters - that only a handful of people determine the outcome of elections when the turnout is only 33 or 35 %, then there will never be real change.

other nations have turnouts in the high numbers - those nations understand the importance of a "true" majority voice - not that of the special interests.

the special interests took over this nation when the people stayed home - or voted for candidates that "sounded cool" but never had a chance in hell of winning an election.

my take is that this all started to fall apart when civics was no longer taught in schools.  when people no longer understood that our government was OF the people and BY the people - and they stopped voting, then it became the government OF the special interests FOR the special interests.

the only way to change that is in the voting booth.

                    period.
