as having any legitimacy at all? this would be farcical if it wasn't so freaking dangerous and where its decisions could affect so many women's lives and reproductive rights! What century are they living in where they make sure that something like this is composed of a panel of men and several religious ones at that ... just on the basis of separation of church and state alone, this is completely illegitimate. So the church (of any religion) has a say on gov't policy? We have a whole panel of men, representing the interests of organised religion, but no voice for women ... how perfect ... plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose ... except we are regressing in time

to Darrell Issa I said something similar and requested a "do over" with a legitimate panel.

It's absurd.  I mean really, no exaggeration. It's absurd.  And I wonder if this guy even realized that it was absurd.  Then he tried to cover himself with an MLK poster and quote.  wtf?

The whole thing about how some things are not popular... almost reminds me of abuse "this will hurt me more than it hurts you..." and as ThinkProgress noted, MLK believed that more resources should be spent on birth control and education.

      •  shameful! yes, it is exactly that, an abuser (4+ / 0-)

telling you that it will hurt them more than it will hurt you! The gall that he used MLK to justify his actions; it is absurd ... you feel like you entered a play where everyone is babbling nonsensical things while acting as though they are doing sensible things ... he has done Ionesco proud today; the theatre of the absurd!

NY brit expat.  If you get a chance, give him a piece of your mind via email, phone or twitter.

I really do wish we could organize a visit by about a thousand women!  Of course I realize that would be a bit of a long trip for you so I would gladly bring your message for you :)

a US address, I am lacking a US phone which makes things a bit difficult ... I had composed the whole thing, pressed send and they refused to do so w/o a telephone; that added insult to injury ... one needs a phone to write to this cretin! sorry, I did try! discussed the illegitimacy of the panel, raised the question of the separation of church and state and how in this age, churches can be making policy? Described as farcical that a panel discussing women's reproductive rights in the absence of a single women whose life was being affected by the issue demonstrated the complete illegitimacy of said panel. Described it as shameful ... sigh ... got a lot of very polite bile out of my system and couldn't send it. feh!
