  •  Great to have you. (none)
Your presence in the Senate -- together with a few other like-minded progressives -- is one of the things that keeps this cynic's hope in the future alive.  Welcome to dKos!

There are so many issues that need addressing, because this administration fails across the board, but the overarching need is for the Democrats to articulate a compelling "theme" or "frame" for the future.  The Democrats have the great fortune of being on the right side of almost every issue -- meaning, the public favors, policy point by policy point, the Democrats' position.  Where we lose is in the general, non-policy-specific "vision thing".  We've got to get serious about articulating a general vision and worldview that trumps the empty and facile "USA No. 1, God-is-on-our-side" rhetoric of the GOP.  It can be done, but it will take work, both to develop the message and then get it to the voters.

I would like to second a suggestion made above: you and every solid progressive in Congress should be beating down the doors of outlets like Air America Radio to get your message to as many people as possible.  We need to inspire progressives to get involved in party politics locally, and we need to inspire fence-sitters to become progressives who then become involved in party politics locally.  There's nothing like hearing a member of Congress on AAR say the things I believe in.  From my own experience, hearing the likes of Sen. Boxer, Sen. Kennedy and Rep. Conyers on AAR is a big inspiration, and has convinced me to open my wallet and give my time to the Democratic Party -- which, frankly, I had long ago written off -- like never before.

    Again, welcome.

    "Skip a bit, brother Maynard."
