New Yorkers are rude, is because of the staccato nature of the way they speak and their word inflection.

I'm from the Midwest....when I first visited NYC, people seemed harsh and impatient.  But when I looked back on what they had actually said, and done, they had been friendly and helpful.  It had more to do with my ear than their words and behavior.  They also stand closer when speaking than I'm used to in the Midwest.

After I had reflected on this,  my perception of New Yorkers was much different during following visits.  Sure, I interfaced with some people who were indifferent, but that's to be found everywhere.
