  •  All this craziness and hatred (9+ / 0-)

makes "real" Christianity look so bad. I am one of the mainline Christians who apparently is no longer a Christian (according to Santorum). So many people associate hatred and judgmentalism with Christianity, and I think it gets worse all the time, as the GOP moves farther and farther to the right and deeper into hatred and divisiveness. The really sad thing is that people who I have known for years, who I thought were good people and good Christians, have turned into Santorum supporters,  i.e. culture warriors to the max, right in my very red town, in my mainline church. I don't know what to think anymore. I am very sad though.

know that I have come to hate Christians because of the Right Wing crazy assholes who call themselves Christians.

Anyone tells me they are a Christian and I run the other way.

      •  "hate" is such a strong word. I simply know (4+ / 0-)

enough to put my hand on my wallet and keep walking.

Don't pray in my school and I won't think in your church. (-9.00,-8.86)

      •  Okay, well at least you're willing to admit (0+ / 0-)

that you hate a wide swathe of people based on the actions of some. My church tells me that hate is a waste of time and energy, but you're entitled to live as you please. You're just no longer in a position to disagree with the many people that hate all Americans because of the actions of George Bush, the CIA, and so on. And because so many horrendous things have been done in the name of democracy, I guess you're against that too?

I am an atheist, who never had trouble with any religion until the last few years.  Every time I hear of Westborough Baptist protesting funerals I get angry.  My Christian friends tell me that that’s not all Christians, I get that, but why aren’t the “real” Christians denouncing them?  Why aren’t they out there counter protesting?  Why am I watching Christians decide my birth control rights?  What the hell is this prosperity gospel? Why is the Roman Catholic Church still trying to hide the well documented problems with pedophile priests, I can’t remember where I read it but apparently the church is expanding its mission to Africa, is this where they are sending those priests now?  Huff Post ran an opinion piece recently that said more people would trust a rapist over an atheist.  It feels to me like America is starting to move towards a theocracy and I don’t like it.  So hate is a strong word, but I am getting there.

tells me they're a "Christian", I keep one eye on my wallet and walk quickly away. That is the state of corruption of religion in the Western world.
