    never mention any of the material, because they know their base of racists ex-dems, teabaggers, religionists, and republicans will just buy it without looking it up.

    And the liberal myth, put forth by the republicans, is that Lincoln fought the war to free the slaves.  He did not.  He fought it to keep the Union whole.

      Reality is seldom as clear cut as people want. So they believe myths rather than history. Even though there may have been a great deal of personal nobility among Confederate soldiers and generals, overall I find the confederacy indefensible.

      And Lincoln was pretty clear that slavery was not the main reason HE was fighting the war.
