I was sniffing around Arora's donations and noticed several tagged "Leisure World." I didn't know what that meant, but it has a "Boogie Nights" sound to it.

for moderately well-off people. Not surprising it's a source of some conservatism, but since many of the people there are retired government workers (my parents friends lived there, for example, all government workers), it's probably pretty Democratic.
I can see some of the older people maybe being a little resistant to marriage equality (I can almost here someone saying "Selma's son is gay, and that's okay, but why do they have to get married,") but I can't imagine it's the number one issue on too many people's minds there. It's more likely that constituent services are the state issues that concern people, while the federal issues would be Medicare & Social Security.
A lot of these people came up from immigrant families, went to college when no one else in their family had, and grew up with unions as part of what they believed. Sure, some, like one of my neighbors who moved there, are old Southern types, Marylanders from the days of segregation. But for the most part, I bet they are transplants to this area who came to work for the government and are conservative mainly in wanting protections from change they view as dangerous to their security.
