conservative, right wing fundamentalist version, it is after all based on all the hate and revenge and scorn in the bible.   They have taken, 'what would Jesus do?' and turned it on its head.   Basically they teach to do the opposite. The chosen, select few, defined as themselves, basically church by church, and everyone else is the damned, so it doesn't matter how you treat those people.  Those people are instruments of satan.  That they are the same cultural enemies as always, the rebirth of the knownothings, xenophobic, anti-semitic (ie, Israel is to be supported so Armageddon and the end days can come to pass), anti-brown people, is just the outcome of these people never moving beyond their prejudices for six to ten generations.

      SUFFERING.

Suffering makes gawd happeh. Especially needless, self-inflicted suffering. Hence, austerity comes to 'murika.

their god must be giggling hysterically at this point.

It is sad to be in the midst of the bible belt, and see these people truly hurting, but not able to figure out what went wrong.  The hate factor goes up, the rationality disappears.

(in their world view) is OK if you're not a Republican.

and middle class whites, who had less to begin with compared to non-red states, have lost, too.   They are the ones I was referring to.   And they truly are lost, but more angry about things being stolen from them, and more easily pointed in the wrong direction.
