  •  While I value my Marine service (9+ / 0-)

I would not say that I look back on it with pride.

I saw/heard too many things that bothered me, including the attempts to dehumanize the VC and NV by labeling them with derogatory terms

I heard way more sexist language than I ever want to experience

I heard a fair amount of homophobia, including from some who were gay as covers

    I experienced anti-semitism

    I saw racism

In other words, the Marine Corps of the 1960s was very reflective of American males of that generation

And I can look back and see far too much that needed to be changed

But i would never say I wish I had served in the military of another country

And I still carry with me the loss of several with whom I served whose names are now on a black wall only a few miles from where I write this

It's just the rear echelon jerkoffs - and civilian wannabes - who brag, brag, brag.

My Dad was in the Air Corps/Force in WWII (I think they had changed the name officially by the time he enlisted, but it took a while to catch on). He used to have a photograph album with some very disturbing pictures - places having, or that had just had, the hell bombed out of them. He never talked about them and we knew better than to ask.

        If it's
        Not your body,
        Then it's
        Not your choice
        And it's
        None of your damn business!
