as painful as Judy's story is, i too wonder about Judy's mother and what her life was like with six children, and mijita's account of her going from the doctor's office straight to the priest.  i really cannot imagine how her life must have been with no hope and no choices at all, but instead, her entire life controlled by others (her husband, her priest, probably extended family and the mindset of that time and culture).

it's difficult to read and yet i am so grateful for this story, and mijita's account of the child and the mother.  i find it profoundly disturbing that cruelty to women truly is a longstanding tradition.  no human being should be reduced to this level.
