    which is quite a tour de force in all the cultural info you've pulled together.  

    I must confess to appreciating the diary more than the music, though the diary is helping to shed new light toward the music.

      That's kinda what brought me into him in the first place, his history and context - I'm a huge fan of this decade or so in Russian cultural history, where a lot of the very best writing and art was made.  He's very much a product of that time period (a lot of the poets were mystics) and it's no wonder that a couple of them practically worshiped him.
