  •  Everyone assumes that... (3+ / 0-)

    the only people getting each other pregnant are teens or non-married people living it up in the city in their 20s.

    Pregnancy is an issue for MARRIED couples for the following reasons:

    * both parents may not want the child
    * the child may strain or overwhelm the family's
       financial resources
    * genetics pose a risk to a child's long-term health/survival
    * there are health risks that could pose a risk to the
      mother's near or long-term health/survival

    Also, know that among the early supporters of abortion were Episcopal priests, who saw the destructive effect of multiple births within a family, both to finance's and the mother's health.

    We are SO used to 2 and 3 child families, which is not how things happen naturally. This is  an indication that "family planning" (contraception!) is working.

    Does the right really believe that married people should ONLY be allowed to have sex if they are trying to have a child? Well... maybe.

    But what about the rest of the nation?

    I, personally, would be glad if teens waited for sex -- not for reasons of morality, but for reasons of maturity. They'd have a better shot at having good, meaningful first (second/third/fourth) experiences, and having a partner where there's mutual respect.

    But I think it's CRAP to say that women in their 20s/30s/etc/etc shouldn't have sex if they want it whether they're married or not.
