      because I need to reread these works to do them justice.  P Carey's meditation on The Moviegoer got me thinking again about the metaphorical use of journey, progress, evolution by novelists for narrative structure and character development while at the same time philosophers and social critics are asking us to question the meaning of these things.

      Anyway, somewhat inchoate thoughts at this point but I appreciate the invitation.
