  •  Because We Ended Progressive Taxation (5+ / 0-)

of business and individuals 30 years ago.

Now, most of gains no matter how large can be taken home, and since that time the economy has restructured to create vast gains for top management and ownership.

And that, very literally, means yes indeed, nothing else matters. At the top end entire families can be made rich for life in just a few years' or months' work.

The planet's not going to suddenly explode, the air won't become suddenly unbreathable. All that's going to happen is everything will get worse for most people, but those who are rich enough will be able to secure the shrinking areas that are good to live, and to hell with everyone else.

The only way to preserve civilization is to return to the New Deal Era practice of binding the long term interests of our richest to the long term interests of society. The single most important tool for doing that is to prevent too much money from accumulating, and too fast, at the top.

And "too much" means little enough that both parties at present strongly oppose the solution.

Since they are now set for life, why don't they call it a day and stop f***ing their fellow humans?

I guess we could ask one of them - or have Jake Gittes do it for us:
