The guy shot is a violent felon recently freed from a long prison term, and the van he was riding in was stopped based on suspicion of involvement in an armed robbery.  The felon then fled from the van, and it was then that he was shot.  But the simple truth is that we DON'T YET KNOW the actual circumstances of the shooting.

Ah, but I'm sure this dear fellow was an honor student turning his life around," on his way to do volunteer work at this local church when he was brutally assaulted by the police out of the clear blue sky for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

I'm sure that's what got him sent to prison on felony conviction the first time, too, no doubt.  Those eveil police and all, you know.

    •  And I'm sure we'll get a reasonable lie (9+ / 0-)

from the police about what happened, just as per usual.  Because nothing says bravery like shooting someone in the back while they are running away.

There revolution will not be televised. But it will be blogged, a lot. Probably more so than is necessary.

    •  Sounds like cop bullshit to me (7+ / 0-)

we DO know there was no weapon--maybe the BadgeThugs didn't have time to plant one--and the guy's wound was in his BACK.

That's enough evidence for me, especially when the pile of other cop bullshit is stacked up next to it....

The only so called crime they might ever have on me is a seed in my pocket or something--and I still cross the street to avoid them.  Should they be allowed to shoot me?  When do I get to shoot back?

    •  So effing what? (7+ / 0-)

The dude's criminal history doesn't matter, nor does the assertation that the van he was in may have been involved in an armed robbery.  Remember, we've -supposed- to have something called 'presumption of innocence' in this country.

The guy was running away.  No one disputes that.  He apparently wasn't brandishing a weapon at the cops.  They had no reason or excuse for using lethal force to stop the guy.

now people can run away from police whenever they want to?

As the Romans said, a law without any enforcement isn't really a law.

Global warming is the inconvenient truth, nuclear power is the inconvenient alternative.

Not sure if I'd want to live under Augustus Caesar's rule either. If you want to see a totalitarian state, there's a good model.

        •  Pretty much. (0+ / 0-)

Too bad you don't seem to understand the difference between 'enforcement' and 'shooting people willy-nilly'.

So if a kid gets caught red-handed shoplifting something, panics, and runs from the cops, it's okay to shoot  him?  'Cause that appears to be the point you're making.

    •  Sure, we we can trust the cops to self-investigate (4+ / 0-)

No way they'll take like 6 months for a phony "investigation" and give the shooter a 3-day paid administrative leave, that never happens. Cops are never wrong, right?

We can't trust theses thugs to investigate themselves. They have a history of violent thuggish behavior. If the victim does have a criminal record, it still doesn't give this pig a reason to shoot him in the back, a cowardly, malicious act. He should go to jail for attempted murder, because that's what it was.
