What value added do they offer?

& put more focus on other Insurance deals.  The Pharms can stop being drug peddlars & do some real research & maybe try treating people & not just shareholders.

The pain will be good for their souls.

    •  They employ boatloads of people (none)
The industry is not a value add in medicine, but it is probably the last major employment industry in the US that doesn't involve french fries or greeting customers at the door.

The top level management can go skulk off to whatever tax haven they've hidden their wealth in for all I care, but the lower-level employees could earn paychecks actually helping people get their medical care. At the very least, not tossing all of the low-level employees out on the street might help keep the coming crash from "being all that it can be."

Beware the everyday brutality of the averted gaze.

I sympathize with the problem and would strongly support a special unemployment bill for these people as they find useful work, but right now they are drag on the economy. Doing nothing, and getting paid for it, would be better for our economy overall than continuing our highly bureaucratic private insurance programs.
