    The Bush/Cheney administration outed Valerie Plame, not just to sully her husband for not finding Iraq's yellow cake in Africa, but to get her (and the whole CIA front Brewster Jennings) out of the business of tracking Iranian nukes.

      Gee. I seem to recall that at the time they were gunning for Saddam's nukes. Though it's never mattered if there actually are any, so what's the difference...

        she was tracking Iranian nukes.  Which was inconvenient because one of Cheney's Halliburton subsidiaries was (illegally) selling nukes to Iran. So outing Plame was a twofer - maybe threefer - got rid of anyone watching sales of (illegal) nuke technology to Iran, got rid of Plame which had to hurt Joe Wilson, and helped slur for a while Joe Wilson.
