    papist... slightly twisted then to mean that he believed more in the Pope than in God (as compared to believing in God as the Pope, himself, believed in God).

    JFK, one whom my male parent hated--a great reason to like JFK, had to prove to the nation that he would not use his position as President of the entire US to

    1) Favor Catholics over Protestants in all things.

    2) Inflict revenge against Protestants for (Catholic priest & theologian) Martin Luther's treason in 1520 against the pope (honestly--it was discussed).

    3) Seek papal approval before promoting some American domestic or foreign policy.

    -- The funniest thing to me is how Santorum is now giving me a greater appreciation for Martin Luther.

      Luther, Calvin and Zwingli (the last two being especially active in the French and German parts of Switzerland respectively) are actually beginning to sound sane in comparison to Santorum et al.
