  •  Palin is a grifter, not a politician. (5+ / 0-)

She does not like politics, is not good at politics, does not like media scrutiny, and does not like working hard. This is not a combination of traits belonging to someone who seeks the Presidency; in fact I think Sarah Palin wouldn't become President if you handed her the Genie's lamp. Any noises she makes about being the GOP savior are by way of keeping her brand fresh and her media buzz up (although that battle, I think, is pretty much lost now).

Furthermore, in order to be selected at a brokered convention, the person in question would have to have the support of the institutional GOP power brokers; these people hate Sarah Palin, blame her (not entirely wrongly) for losing the 2008 election, and are not eager for a replay. So even if she wanted it, she couldn't have it.

The other pols you mention are underwhelming for the various reasons you point out; mostly that they are either too moderate for the GOP base (include every GOP governor of a blue or purple state in this category) or too crazy for the general electorate (Anybody named Paul, Ryan, or some combination of both). Jeb Bush is probably the best (from their POV) of the lot, but America just isn't ready to vote for another guy named Bus; I think Jeb knows it and would much prefer to run in 2016.

I support torturous regimes! Also, I kick puppies.
