      culture.  They buy cars that are supposed to be performance oriented (vs. simply posh and exquisitely comfortable), so they feel that they should be driving vs. driven.  But they can't really put a car through its paces on Tiburon Blvd., and most of them would have no clue how to get the most from their vehicles if they were on a suitable road or track anyway.  

      The true irony is that it makes even more sense these days for the busy CEO to have a driver, since technology makes it possible to stay completely connected and work in the car.  (Alternately, the car gives them the one place to work where they have some hope of avoiding interruption if they turn devices off.)
