  •  Me too! My daughter just finished her (12+ / 0-)

clinicals for Labor & Delivery in nursing school. She LOVED it. Was present during a C-Section delivery, "natural" delivery in-hospital, forceps, the whole shooting match. It was all amazing, incredible, and her feet hardly touched the floor for the several weeks she was doing this!!  But knowing she and her brother were born at home, having seen the pictures of her birth, with her father and grandmother and brother there... she knows the options as well. The biggest piece of "equipment" at her birth was an old ice chest that we sterilized for her new born bath!!!  Knowing that and having seen that pic too...  she was fascinated and slightly horrified by all the hospital interventions.  But birth is birth....  when it goes well it's AMAZING!

I attended my best friends home birth of her son way back when. I'll never forget the moment that little body came out. There was a living/breathing/tiny little human being that just emerged into the world. Wow!

Kudos to you for selecting the most healthful method of birthing your child.

Kudos to your daughter from my wife, an R.N. and myself, a Nurse Practitioner.  Nursing is intellectually challinging and mentally/physically challenging.  However, most nurses go home everyday secure in the knowledge that they helped their fellow beings.

My wife and I welcome your daughter into a wonderful profession.  She will do more good without even thinking about it in one day with her patients than many people do in a lifetime.

Be proud of her.  She is special.

      •  Thank you for such a lovely comment! :) (1+ / 0-)

I think she will make a wonderful nurse. She is smart as a whip.... Plus she's an extremely social/people person. Kind, gentle, but very competent and fearless.  What can I say.... I love my kid!!!     :)

Thank you for welcoming her into the profession. I have the utmost admiration for nurses. I had pituitary surgery a few years back and the nurses were just wonderful. They knew exactly what to do, and were kind, comforting, humorous, and made sure I stayed alive and was doing well after surgery.  I really can't say enough about my respect for the profession.

Thanks for all you and your wife do!!!
