  •  I had the great honor to meet (12+ / 0-)

Mr. Jones a few years ago.

He was in NYC for something or other and it turns out that a co-worker of mine has been a friend of his for years, he swung by to see our show and came backstage afterward for a meet & greet. I stayed after everyone else had gone and got a few minutes one on one with him, what a nice guy!

He seemed to me to be a genuinely kind, gracious and generous man, full of a sparkling sense of humor and witty intelligence. I told him that meeting him had completed my "60s music icon" pantheon of meeting great, influential musicians. He asked me who else I had met and I rolled off the list (McCartney, Jagger, Richards, Garcia, Diamond, Dylan, Kaukonen, et. al) and he seemed genuinely touched that I would include him with the others. I told him that the Monkees had influenced the shape of pop music as much as anyone else. He really seemed to appreciate that.

    Requiescat in pace David Jones.
