    The leases would be worth less, but I have no issue with trying that approach. All the facts are up front and there will be a market clearing price. However, it's a devil to track after the fact. The happened in the Carter administration with the price controls for oil. That was a mess for 20 years.

      can produce the energy in some other way that is more sustainable.  One way or another, almost all energy (barring nuclear decay/splitting) traces back to the sun, which gives us far more energy than we can use.  Seems like we need to learn to just cut out some of the steps, and harness more of it more directly.

        The best of current solar technology transfers about 20% of the energy from the sun into useful electricity. And that's only on a clear day with no clouds and when the sun is directly over the solar panel. However, the big problem is that we have no way to store electricity except for batteries which store very small amounts. Until we find utility scale storage wind, solar and other alternatives will play a small part on our energy mix.
