    Oh Mary Oh, Cinnamon, commonmass

You should have a complete cardiology workup, including stress ultrasound analysis of your heart and carotid arteries, with a comprehensive and sophisticated blood panel (my favorite is the Berkeley Heart Lab panel). There are very few cardiac issues that cannot be diagnosed and addressed so that people with poor genetic construction of their hearts can have a long life. There is even a way to diagnose people at risk of Sudden Cardiac Death who have no apparent risk factors like weight, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or coronary artery disease.

There is severe heart disease on my father's side and hearts of iron on my mother's. So far it looks like I got more from Mom, for which I am very thankful.

and I am sure he can find me a good guy at Beth Israel--a hospital I trust.

My grandmother died in December at 91. She never smoked, only had a little sherry once in a while, ate very, very well even back in the day when people didn't really know about that, and was athletic and active. She dropped dead of CHF and valve disease on her way to the doctor's. She also had a quadruple bypass and valve replacement about 15 years prior.

You can never know you're at risk for heart disease unless you get a check-up. Which I will do, soon. I am getting to the age where I really need to.

(for my age, I was much thinner in my youth but still sport a 32 inch waist at 5'8" and nearly 43) and my blood pressure is naturally on the low end and still is. But I smoke. Which I should quit.
