    that rather than debating the merits of Obama's approach here, half of the commenters here are caught up on the usage of one word.

    Maybe I came after the diary was edited, but it was pretty clear to me in reading it, and even with the headline, that Obama didn't actually veto the NDAA.

    Wouldn't a debate over the effectiveness of this policy directive be more informative and interesting?

      the word indicates an important power the President has that was not exercised here.

      FTR, the diary stiull uses the word veto.

      I think that if you see it as silly, you are missing the significance of this decision.

      One can argue that it was a necessary decision by the President not to veto NDAA and instead use the policy directive as the device to control it DURING HIS TERM, but to argue that the decision not to veto it is a silly non-issue betrays a great deal of ignorance on the subject imo.
