to have my picture taken for my freshman class in college.  walked into phil aul's studio in charlotte where one of my classmates was sitting and she looked up and said "the president's been shot!"

i looked at her confused and replied, "what for?"

that is the only photo in my life that i like - i was totally unaware the camera was there and it has such a sadness reflecting from it.

i was on the way home when we got the news that president kennedy had died.  mom was driving and every car on the street had their windows down and they were listening to walter cronkite make the announcement.

then the following days - non-stop REAL news coverage through the cortege with the riderless horse.

i can still see the images clearly even now.

    •  That was a very tough time. (0+ / 0-)

I was twenty-six, had been working in New York for the same art magazine since 1959; when I first started there they were in the same office they'd been in since the 1920s, top floor of a six-story building half a block west of Bloomingdales. Not glamorous! Nor was my $65 a month apartment on East 71st near York.

It was as if the city were covered in a deep gray pall -- for three days the traffic was very light. With no television all I could do was go home and listen to the radio and wonder what it meant.
