  •  "Belief" with tolerance (0+ / 0-)

It's possible to "believe" without enforcing those beliefs on others. I'm a Protestant, but I permit my Catholic wife to abstain from meat on Fridays during Lent. Or maybe she permits me to eat meat on Fridays during Lent; I forget which scenario we agreed upon. Equally, I'm happy to let Jews and Muslims abstain from pork, and I'm okay with letting atheists be atheists. In Jefferson's words, none of this picks my pocket or breaks my leg.

It's about simple tolerance...or at least tolerance that should be simple. My belief in X shouldn't stop you from believing not X, or Y, or even Z. It's not about having faith. It's about being an @sshole or not. Rick Santorum is an @sshole, but he's too self-absorbed to recognize it, and in any case self-absorption is one of the defining characteristics of @ssholes.
