Surely the handlers and advisers have talked to both of them about this issue, and they just can't seem to get in a mindset that allows them to speak authentically but humbly about their good fortune. Obama can do it. Elizabeth Warren gave a fiery speech that says she gets it. But the Romney's just cant seem to get their heads around it.

My financial situation is not the first thing that pops in my head if I have to describe myself either, and that's because I'm reasonably comfortable. Middle class, and not at the upper end of that by any means, but not worried about where my next meal is coming from or if I can manage to afford gas to get to work the rest of this week.

And if I had to explain myself to people who do have those daily worries I would be addressing that, front and center. I'm blessed. Through a combination of good fortune, my parent's hard work, my hard work and a lot of lucky breaks I'm not worried about where my next meal is coming from. And because of that I feel I have an obligation to create a society where as few people as possible have to face such a worry. I cannot fully enjoy that meal without awareness that others may have no meal at all.

from a bright young conservative: “I’m watching my first GOP debate…and WE SOUND LIKE CRAZY PEOPLE!!!!”
