yesterday's headline was all about Sherrod Brown's "tough" race ahead.

to unload a bunch of speculative doomsterism, when the underlying  facts they presented did NOT suggest a "tough" race. And clearly they didn't read the Atlantic article and see what a hapless candidate Mandel really is. It's almost kneejerk to say a race will "tighten up," but that's not necessarily true and they presented no evidence. Mandel has only one asset: the money that will be dropped into the race. Whether that's enough, we'll see.

I have every reason to think Brown will hold his seat, but the GOP PACs will make it tough on him.  Last fall, while the anti-union bill was going down to defeat, over two thirds of Ohioans voted against requiring people to purchase health insurance.  The GOP campaign will be all about job creators and Obamacare.  There are already anti-Brown ads on TV.

The only thing we have to offer is fear itself. Republican Party, 2012.

between Issue 3 and Brown. It's apples and oranges. it wasn't even that we were deluged with ads promoting Issue 3. It was primarily the lying ballot language. Heck, I was taken aback when I saw it and went "If I didn't know what this was, I would have voted for it."

The money may not be as big an issue as we think. At some point, negative ads lose their impact. In fact, part of the problem for Mandel is that, yes, there have been negative ads attacking Brown on TV for THREE MONTHS and they've made almost no inroads. The SuperPACS can't just keep ramping up the negativity (which is all they do) or it will backfire at some point. And no, "Obamacare" and "job creators" won't be effective. More and more Ohioans support "Obamacare" (it was impossible to tell form the Issue 3 ballot language that that was what it was about) and don't see Republicans as "job creators."

Plus those aren't issues where Mandel has any ground to stand on.
