      •  How much has Cuomo fought for a pro-Dem map? (1+ / 0-)

For the Senate?  For the US House?  Do you see ANY chance of Cuomo lifting a finger or threatening a veto of ANYTHING to improve Democratic chances in the US House?

Now if Spitzer was in charge what would the chances be?

Cuomo says he's unsure if he'll campaign to help Democrats take back the State Senate.  Is there any chance whatsoever that those words would come out of Spitzer's mouth?

If this map came about.  Maybe Spitzer would say screw the US House.  I'm vetoing everything.  Maybe Spitzer might say if Republicans want a State Senate (and one with only a continued one seat majority) I'll make a deal.  But you have to concede points on the US House.

With Cuomo in the Governor's mansion I have no hope and am re-signed to being screwed because quite frankly my governor could care less about me or the party we both belong to.  At least if he doesn't help him become President.

But maybe we can get a promise from Senate Republicans about a constitutional amendment we all know will never happen.  And I am not even sure SHOULD happen to be honest.

fight that he started? Given his track record, I feel pretty confident that if he had fought against the map, we would have somehow ended up with something worse.

He used his appointments judiciously and went all out in every special election.  He was always putting the Senate Republicans on the hot seat.

Now.  Yes.  He did start way too many fights.  Often for no reason besides ego and that was getting him into trouble.  And is why he wasn't able to get through the scandal when it hit.  Everyone danced on his grave the minute he got into trouble.  Once he couldn't strong arm anyone he had no support.

But he used his chits and personal popularity to advance the Democratic Party and it's agenda.

But he isn't.  The constitutional amendment is a fig leaf for him giving in to Senate Republicans (and Assembly Democrats) to save their own jobs over what is right (both for the Democratic party and the state of New York).

Consitutional amendments need to be passed during two consecutive terms.  Do you honestly believe once the Republicans in the State Senate get what they want this is going to be on their agenda next year?  Oh sure they may even technically pass it (perhaps using new language that will then have to be voted on by the legislature after that).  And what is Cuomo going to do?  Threaten to cave again?

To be honest I'd be content if Cuomo even just demanded population balance between districts so the Republicans couldn't completely screw NYC over in the State Senate.

            But that won't happen.

        O'Malley or Schweitzer '16 !

If anyone remembers anything about Mario Cuomo's governorship, it is that he could have done so much, but really didn't rock the boat.  Andrew Cuomo came into office and did a lot in a short time, but isn't doing much lately.  Perhaps he thought that a judge could get him a better deal for the Dems, but, I doubt that is the reason.  If he wants to run for national office, he has to get through the primaries, and O'Malley and Schweitzer are more willing to push the envelope.

Whoever wins in 2016, (hopefully a Dem), they are going to want a Dem controlled US house, and now is the time to maximize seats.  In New York State, it wouldn't be too difficult to get almost all Dem seats, with just 2 or 3 GOP sinks.  But, this doesn't happen if we don't push hard for it.  I agree, Spitzer would never let this go to a judge.
