    is that he seems to have a VERY strong urge to posture himself as an above-the-fray non-partisan at all times, which reminds me a bit of Joe Lieberman.  It seems to me that, with Lieberman, maintaining that posture became something bigger than ideology or good policy.  For example, I can remember him justifying his non-support for the public option by more or less saying that the liberals love it, so I'm going to vote against it.  I'm afraid of that kind of posturing from this guy based on what I have heard from him in the past week or so.

      because he's always been conservative, but that's probably more his idea of revenge against the left.
