  •  It appears that Snowe is throwing her (3+ / 0-)

weight (which might be 80 pounds) and perhaps some of her campaign war chest ($4 million) behind AG Bill Schneider.

    •  She has already "endorsed" him by giving him her (1+ / 0-)

mailing list (which is a valuable in kind donation that should be tracked by us), but she probably wouldn't endorse him for the primary itself unless the flubbing of the mailing list thing were to force her to.  She probably dropped out because of D'Amboise's likely Tea Party-fueled win over her, and if she endorsed Schneider, she would derail him as well, D'Amboise making hay out of her endorsement.

She's said she won't commit to endorsing a Republican in the general, though, and I take that to mean that she hopes that Schneider gets the nod but in the likely event that D'Amboise wins it, she's explicitly leaving the possibility open that she'll endorse King.

"Many people believe Snowe dropped out of the race because she was looking at an embarrassing loss to the relatively unknown Scott D’Amboise."

          LOL

            •  Not the same at all (0+ / 0-)

that was an open race split multiple ways. People weren't paying attention; there were a ton of undecideds until the end.

              •  Well since she's tipped her hand with the AG, (0+ / 0-)

we'll see how ridiculous that scenario is.  Like D'Amboise, LePage was a relative unkown and he'll rally the Teabaggers like LePage did in the primary.  Remember that LePage blew the field out of the water, including Collins' CoS, Abbott.

Also remember that the Tea Party guy this cycle would have been facing off with Snowe one to one, and not in a broad field like the '10 Gov primary.  He would have actually, given Snowe's relative moderate status, been able to rally the wingnuts to an even greater degree that he will against Schneider, who is a military guy.

I never said it was the same.  But there are enough dynamics that are similar that I think the analysis is apt.
