regular session last night. We now have a brand new Medicare Compact law, 72 hour wait for abortions, no more sex education allowed in the public schools, bills challenging the federal government for ownership of federal lands within state boundaries, the ALEC anti- PETA law, etc. (and all need signing, but with our Governor that's a given). Some of the worst "red meat" ALEC members sat on the sidelines this session because we have a new Congressional District to fill, a Senator to boot out for heresy (Orrin Hatch), and a Governor who's far to the right of the average citizen, but not far enough.

(We also have a new law modifting all state environmental agenciy Boards to increase industry participation, and decrease citizen and environmentalist representation. This one was written by local polluters, so it may have been entirely home grown. Or not?)

There can be no protection locally if we're content to ignore the fact that there are no controls globally.
