Dems would still have the legislature. Still, McKenna is a conservative pretending to be a moderate. WA could turn into NJ at the very least.

    •  We have too damn many conservatives (10+ / 0-)

pretending to be Democrats in our state legislature. I'm so angry with our state Senate I could spit.  Besides the budget fiasco, they totally screwed up a vote that would put Washington State on record as favoring abortion coverage under ObamaCare.  All they had to do was bring it to a vote. Instead they waited to the last minute, and it ran out the clock with the budget mess.

We're ALL better off when we're ALL better off!

    •  You mean like we "have" the legislature now? (3+ / 0-)

Somehow not as reassuring as it should be.

that's a pretty big accomplishment in and of itself. In my home state of Rhode Island Democrats have huge majorities in both houses of the legislature and can't get it passed.

        •  I can't figure out (0+ / 0-)

in RI the extent to which the church actually leaned on the legislators, or whether they acted out of 'fraidy-cat-ness?

          •  Oh trust me (0+ / 0-)

the Catholic Church has been hard at work against gay rights.

            •  NY and NJ (0+ / 0-)

have loads of Catholic legislators, too.

My Protestant family from MA always looked to RI as having more secular (French, Italian, Portuguese) Catholics than the MA Irish mafia hierarchy.

the Senate President in RI is a disgusting conservadem who is blocking the bill. Steve Sweeney in NJ is Catholic but at least he's for gay marriage. Even Dean Skelos, the NY Senate Majority Leader who I don't think is Catholic, opposed the bill but at least didn't block it.

RI has plenty of Irish enclaves, and actually former State House Speaker William Murphy was another gay marriage opponent. But Senate Pres. Paiva-Weed (who is...Portuguese I think?) and Majority Leader Dominick Ruggerio (Italian) are also blocking the bill. I really hate being ruled by these conservative creeps.

        •  gay marriage, sure, (0+ / 0-)

but Washington's Democrats govern one of the most economically regressive states in the country.

Kastama is never going to be Secretary of State. Rodney Tom is probably going to be forced out of politics because he's managed to betray both parties in a little over six years. As for Sheldon, I don't know what we can do about that bastard, but it probably starts with taking away his seniority and ends with either kicking him out of the party or running someone else against him.

Irregardless of you comment that he's a conservative I would like to introduce everyone to the WA GOP State Motto:
      12 In 12

To turn the state entire state government they only need to win 12 races this year.

      1 Governor
      3 State Senate
      8 State House

That's the whole ballgame and we just became WI west.  For now lets put aside bickering about where Inslee is on the right/left spectrum.  He is a damn lot farther left than McKenna.  And...given a upset of major proportions he's going to win the primary and be the Democratic Candidate.  Now is the time to get behind him.
