  •  It is interesting how the (7+ / 0-)

memories of these events often don't include the other significant events that happened at or near the same time.

The Roe v Wade decision shortly before the match was certainly something I paid attention to. While the match caught my irritation over the hype and Riggs' ugly remarks (I was giving up on pre med that year) Billie Jean was my ideal of what a woman in a situation/role like that had to be: tough, effective and with matter of fact confidence.

The high school kid who challenged Michelle Bachman to a debate because she gets really upset when women in important positions are really stupid, was pointing out that there is still a lot of the old women aren't capable ideas out there.

The other tennis game memory that came back (probably very muddled) was of a major playoff in Europe (France?) when cell phones had been out enough that they were getting to be a big nuisance. In one scene, a player was getting ready to serve a ball and a phone went off nearby causing him (her?) to hit it poorly. In another, the player who was close to serving heard a phone go off nearby and began pantomiming answering the phone: 'Hello? Hello?'

Suspect it was VERY soon after that the spectator rules were changed to keep the distractions out of play.

Always well worth reading J& H. BTW, is the car the smiley face drives any thing special? Tesla? ;)

I wish.  That car is something I found back in the dark ages.

I used to tease the "Rescue Rangers" - when the RR diary would be posted nightly on the front page around 11:00 pm EST - and they would often talk about the "Editmobile" being used by that night's editor to drive through all the posted diaries on Daily Kos.  So, I had to find something to mirror that oft-mentioned comment.

Well, since then, it's become my signature graphic whenever I post tip jar comments.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.  :-)
