No one, except to prove something, commits voter fraud. It's way too much trouble, and there is so little return, and there should be a huge downside if you're caught.

It's rare that an election hinges on a couple of dozen votes. An individual, determined to cheat to elect a candidate, might be able to fraudulently cast a dozen votes, what with waiting in line, travel times between polling places, and so on. And for what? To move some candidate's count from 1,234,822 to 1,234,836?

So why does O'Keefe or his minions risk jail time to vote fraudulently? Because of the videos. He's making the case that it's possible, even easy, to vote fraudulently when ID isn't checked at the polls. It really doesn't matter to him that is would be almost as easy even with IDs. What he's counting on is that Republican legislators will use his videos as proof of rampant voter fraud (since there is no actual evidence of rampant voter fraud, anywhere in the country) to pass laws that effectively restrict voting to the 'right' people.

Sure, there will be collateral damage on the right. Some dittoheads will not find the documents they need to get a photo ID, and won't be able to afford replacements. Or, more likely, won't think it applies to them and will go to the polls without an ID thinking they can vote anyway, just because they are wingnuts.

But as long as more lefties than righties are turned away at the polls, then it's mission accomplished for O'Keefe. He is committing election fraud, not voter fraud. And so are unreconstructed Republican bastard legislators who pass 21st century poll taxes.

    •  I thought this was to prove it could easily happen (0+ / 0-)

as many voter restriction laws are characterized as solutions waiting for a problem.

From what I've seen, though, the only provable voter fraud cases have been perpetrated by Republicans.
