The police did not operate this drone. The USAF did. Therefore it is false to say the police are being equipped with Predator drones.

This was not an observation of a protest as is the topic under discussion. This was in response to a direct armed confrontation against law enforcement officers.

This was not a routine urban observation use but a special need in a sparsely-populated remote area that is hard to cover on the ground alone. It was used (unarmed) during a possible life-or-death situation.

Would you feel this news was dire if it the aircraft was a helicopter? Observation from the air is hardly new.

There is a legitimate concern here on the matter of separation of police actions and military personel. But even according to this story the military is not called in for routine survelience.

However IMO these Predators should not be the main point of worry. The police will not be equipped with these because they do not need such expensive drones. Police just need a small thing that can carry a camera. It doesn't have have stealth technology. Pervasive use of small cheap drones is a more probable concern.
