    1. DNA testing does some of the deep research that genealogy can't do. So you have African Americans who can find out where there ancesters came from in Africa. And you have Jews who are trying to determine genetically whether they were descended from Moses's brother Aaron.

    2. I have no records before my ancestors came to the US from Romania and Minsk in the late 19th Century. I can find all the towns they were from, but no records in those towns about them. V disconcerting. Which brings me back to no. 1 above.

Please read and enjoy my novella, Tulum, available in soft cover and eBook formats.

... from when I was on a DNA genealogy list, the big topic was y-DNA, and I'd have to have a male member of my family with the same ancestors to discover that info.  If I asked, I'd likely get a negative answer, even if I could afford to pay for the test myself (which I can't).

My mtDNA goes from me, through my mother, maternal grandmother, maternal gr-grandmother and maternal gr-gr-grandmother and so on to a little island in Denmark where I have records for my Danish ancestors, and I don't know where before that because those records run out.

If ever a test can be invented to determine the more detailed answers I need from just my mtDNA sample alone - and the prices come down considerably - then I'll reconsider a DNA test.

      Maybe.

I don't trust US corporate labs that test DNA to keep private information private.  Perhaps if I could find a foreign lab that respects privacy and does not share my info with US corporate labs, then maybe I'll do something about a DNA test.  [I'm a senior citizen.  Time is not on my side.  I plan to live to age 100 with a clear mind, but that's only 34 years from now and I have health issues.]

I'm sick of attempts to steer this nation from principles evolved in The Age of Reason to hallucinations derived from illiterate herdsmen. ~ Crashing Vor
