  •  Hey, it's bad enough that all the money has gone ` (9+ / 0-)

out of porn. It's bad enough that a porn performer is no longer (necessarily) stigmatized for life.

I made porn back when we were risking arrest and the pay was good. Now,between "Porn Valley" and kink.com, a boy can't hardly make a living any more.

If Santorum drives porn back "underground" that will mean that performers will start getting paid enough again. Okay, that means the criminal elements will start controlling the distribution channels again, too. Prohibition makes crooks inevitable.

I don't want to see a Santorum presidency, but really, can someone start driving porn underground again? I could use the money.

than they were four years ago before Obama? Obama has let down the porn industry?

The performers aren't as well compensated but it is still a billion-dollar industry.

Back in the day, porn stars could actually become millionaires.  Now they make a few thousand bucks a pop.

have to do it if you really love it, and just view the money as something you get in addition.

Unfortunately, realistically it's probably the other way around more often than not -- the people who do it really need the money.

probably show up on film. The camera knows who is really getting it on and who is there to pay the rent.  Even though porn is free, I can be demanding.

If the performers also do private work off-stage, then the filmed experience advertises the actual services. That gives two income streams, which is better than one.

But I think Charlie Hip Hop has it right. People need money -- kids, parents needing care, no medical insurance, bad habits, whatever. For some people, clearly their best shot at getting money is to work in porn and/or as other kinds of sex workers. I don't have any problem if they do that.

I long ago figured out that there is effectively no moral difference between me watching the porn and the folks making if for me to watch.

as a synthetic organic chemist. I got my start from a woman I was dating who had lost her bid for Los Angeles county supervisor. I have worked with people with Masters degrees in nursing, and a woman who marketed some kind of green algae food supplement that made her a bundle of money.

Yes, I have worked with people who "needed" the money, generally they were the worst people to work with; hired because they were pretty and talent didn't enter into the equation.

Or even further back, when Maralyn Chambers risked arrest for dancing topless at the Mitchell Brothers theater in SF.

I knew that I was losing a few career options when I did my first BDSM video tape, but I've managed. I didn't expect all of the money to go out of porn because too many people were willing to be porn performers.

But I'm sure it will harden when needed.

    •  Pornographers have families & children too! (3+ / 0-)

"I'm Mikey and I'm eight years old.  My daddy makes porn.  I don't know what porn is, but he says he makes a lot of it.  We have a nice house and we go on really neat vacations.  And we have a huge TV to play video games on.  I have my friends over all the time to play games on our TV.  So Mister Santorum, stay away from my daddy and let him make his porn!"
