  •  No, the facts are that her family is having issues (2+ / 0-)

Often, that verbiage IS used to mean something else.

In this case, it means exactly what she said it means. She has two adult family members that have had serious health issues - so bad that she will comment more on Sunday, but had to go take care of her family members today and Saturday. She's their primary caregiver.

Often, it's simply an excuse - in this case, it's real. But because it's a Republican, you automatically distrust them. That's an unfair way to behave - and don't even try the "well, the rightwingers behave that way." That doesn't make it right when you do it.

I wouldn't be surprised if the recall election threat didn't also factor into her decision, but she DOES have family issues, major ones.

I felt badly about that comment. Thanks for bringing this up and holding me accountable. I really do hope that her family isn't going through something terrible. It was an unfair conclusion and no way to behave. Thanks for pointing it out and giving me the chance to apologize. I'll be watching this story closely.

    •  I don't distrust her because she's a Republican (4+ / 0-)

I distrust her because she's violated her oath of office (voted for Senate Resolution 3 which was a dire, blatant violation of Article IV Section 15, having authorized the arrest of legislators, a warrant being issued for Mark Miller's arrest, signed by Scott Fitzgerald), violated the trust of the people of Wisconsin, voted to suppress our voting rights, helped collude in taking redistricting behind closed doors and helped to turn my state's reputation for open government upside-down.

She's earned every last bit of the distrust she has.

      •  So what? (0+ / 0-)

That doesn't change the fact that, in THIS case, she's leaving as a result of her family having issues - she's the sole caregiver for two ill adults who are having acute problems.

Feel free to distrust her because of her actions and her behavior - I never wrote anything that any sane person could interpret as meaning anything BUT that she should be judged upon her behavior! But making a kneejerk assumption that she's claiming family issues without underlying family issues that are happening isn't fair in this case. That was, and remains, my point.

"But because it's a Republican, you automatically distrust them", which doesn't seem generally accurate (some people might, but others have plenty of good reasons).  That was the extent of your comment I was trying to address.

Galloway's family health issues appear to be factual (and my best wishes to her relatives of course), but not because she, with a fully-earned presumption of deceit, claimed them to be.

I hope I'm being clear enough.
