    more experienced part of my comment. What I was trying to describe was a candidate not as beholden to the "social conservatives" as we've been used to seeing from the Republicans.

    Simply nominating someone who was more mainstream would be viewed by many as a positive enough step that they would probably try to reenforce it if they possibly could by supporting a less objectionable candidate than the R's have been offering for decades. Even someone who raised serious concerns might be rewarded just because they seem like a big-time improvement.

    My point isn't that we should ignore how superior Democratic candidates are, rather that we shouldn't count on the "GOP" to keep courting the far right when it predictably blows up in their faces.
