    Most of the defensive gun uses in this country occur without shots being fired. What's scarier to a criminal: an armed or unarmed victim?

    There is some myth that people who are surprised by an attacker will have a chance to pull out a handgun and shoot their assailant.
    A firearm gives you another option. You have the choice to draw it or not if you're carrying. If you don't have it, you have what kind of response to the threat of lethal force?

    Defensive gun uses, as classified by a government survey (mid 90s), occur at the rate of 108k/year. This varies based on the survey but the high end is 2.5million. Both numbers are higher than the less than 100k firearm injuries and deaths that occur each year.
