I am pretty sure I know what Santorum stands for and what he would try to do if he had power.

I don't like it, but at least I have an idea of what he thinks and wants.

Romney: I haven't got a clue. Except for tax breaks for rich people, I know he likes that.

    Otherwise--no idea.

Same with Newt, for that matter.

They respond to prompts, either from their gonads or from some outside voice.  That's what makes them good political candidates--at least the ones with the gift of gab.  Those that can't talk people out of things have to resort to outright theft.

Deceit, hoarding, mimicry, adulation, boasting, accumulation and repetition are all instinctive behaviors. Instinct-driven people exhibit them in spades because their cognitive brains, for some reason, don't modulate.

Remember, "everything in moderation"?  Well, the instinct-driven are immoderate.  That's why they so often end up embarrassed by their lustiness and disrespect for other people's privacy and assets.

Instinct-driven people tend to be advanced by their more cautious associates because they don't recognize dangerous situations.  Remember that cereal ad where the youngest is given a new cereal "Give it to Mikey!" and then everyone cheers 'cause "He likes it!"

      Willard is Mikey.

Hannah, this is an absolutely fascinating explanation of Mitt Romney's behavior.

I can see that his decision to work in a private equity company instead of, say, working for an auto company would fit in with this description.

At least, a private equity company like the Bain piracy company.
