  •  It's about UNDERemployment (3+ / 0-)

and I wonder if the idea that the people Mac McClelland is writing about had good union jobs before the company closed the plant and shipped the jobs to China because they could pay the workers there less has occurred to anyone in the Obama administration, or to any of our Congresscritters beside Bernie Sanders.

Why we support Obama, of course, is that on the other side of the aisle, the guiding philosophy is "I got mine -- and I want more of it," if not "if your job got shipped away it's providence punishing you for being a sinner."

All it takes is security in your own civil rights to make you complacent.

society,  you wouldn't have to wonder about this:

had good union jobs before the company closed the plant and shipped the jobs to China because they could pay the workers there less has occurred to anyone in the Obama administration
Obama may have moved a fair ways away from his roots, but I don't think he really moved so far that he actually forgot his job working for the people displaced from the steel mills in Chicago.

Obama speaks about out sourcing as an ill to be addressed quite frequently,  he actually has made legislative and tax proposals tailored to keeping jobs in the US.  He always promotes US businesses opening green energy type projects that call for rennovation and improvements in buildings, etc., because those jobs can't be outsourced.  He even made it a condition of help to the auto industry that they reinvest here.  And they have.

There are so many legitimate complaints to be made about Obama and his handling of the economic recovery.   This isn't one of them.

Criticize ANYTHING about this administration, even if you make it clear you support it (and you can look at all my comments about how this administration botched ENDA), and someone scolds you for it.  it's very nice he did all this, but where are the results?

Maybe if there had been some, I would have remembered them clearly.

        •  there are results (0+ / 0-)

look at the auto company hirings and plant re-openings for one.  The federal rehab projects for another.   Money in what programs did get through Congress made it into jobs here in many instances.

But you set the standard yourself for my criticism,  not that the results were insufficent, but that you wondered if it had even occurred to them.    You want to make an untrue statement instead of discussing legitimate issues, don't blame me.

          You'll notice I didn't scold the diarist.

          •  Ok, but 23 million are looking for (0+ / 0-)

            full time work.

or as close to true as the bookkeeping of the government allows us to be.

I was specific as to what my objection was.   I pointed out directly that there lots of legitimate complaints to be made.  The author of the diary made several, you've made one.   What I quote from Dave's post, not legitimate.
