  •  Go Jill, Go Jill, Go Go, Go Jill! (19+ / 0-)

I had no idea that it was a matter of Lakoff not willing to step up. Totally thought it was Dems not listening.

Damn right we need a leftwing Luntz. With a leftwing Luntz and the truth on our side it should be next to impossible to beat us in any but the deepest red parts of the country. And quite frankly, with good messaging and the right candidate, we should be able to turn some red areas purple. Not all red staters are as completeliy stupid as we think they are. They can be taught.

Ds see human suffering and wonder what they can do to relieve it. Rs see human suffering and wonder how they can profit from it.

    •  Lakoff does an awesome job talking about framing (16+ / 0-)

But unless he's hired by an individual or group, you'll notice few if any of his articles make suggestions for the actual frames democrats should use. In fact, he came right out and said that he refused to offer any suggestions to the Occupy movement because he thought those frames should come from within, not from an external source.

Sorry, but I disagree. It's time to take the bull by the horns and put the words and phrases out there that will cut the GOP to their knees.

      Any and all suggestions welcomed!

then you will have accomplished something of immeasurable significance. Will gladly offer suggestions as I think of them.

      •  I am SO delighted by this. (5+ / 0-)

I have read and admired Lakoff for years, but always wanted a SOLUTION, DAMN IT! We obviously aren't thinking up the clever phrasing by ourselves.

If you can do this Jill, omg. I promise you I will start using your wording in local elections with my candidates (I could go on quite awhile about that need, too). I also have access to some senators.

        Rock on!

        and thank you.

      •  But ya know, now that I think about it, the pols (6+ / 0-)

are still not off the hook on this. Not by a long shot. Shame on them for not having at least six years ago made it a priority to find their own Luntz. Lakoff can't have been the only game in town. If most of us here could see that's what they needed to do, surely they saw it too and for whatever reason didn't see it as necessary.

That, IMHO, was grossly incompetant on their part. So inconceivably incompetant it sets off my tin foil hat and makes me wonder if Dems lose by design as part of the show biz that politics seems to have become.

So here's you chance, House and Senate Dems, to show us that you really want to win. Find us our very own Lefty Luntz. And then listen to her or him.

And Blue Dogs aren't allowed to take advantage of Lefty Luntz's word wonders unless they pledge support for at least 95% of the planks in the party platform.  They can have a pass on one issue and one issue only. An issue of her/his own chosing, but only one. An unrealistic caveat, I know, but I want to be clear that winning should be worth something- knowing well in advance who we can and cannot count on on all the issues. That's the point of it all, making life actually better for all of us, not just pols.
