  •  This probably had a hand in (10+ / 0-)

The strong response to Rush Limbaugh's attack on Sandra Fluke.  People were already sensitized and mobilized, and it didn't take much to point that at Rush and pull the trigger.

    •  true, but... (3+ / 0-)

Rush is an easy target because he constantly puts the bullseye on his own back ...

Anyway - if it gets him off the air, more better :-)

    •  It was a 1, 2, 3 then whammo set of events (12+ / 0-)

      creating a critical mass:
      1 -- Komen
Just as that was dying down....
2 -- Virginia's transvaginal ultrasound anti-abortion bill (even though Texas had already passed the same type of bill earlier)
3 -- Obama's announcement of including contraception as preventive care (on the recommendation of the National Institute of Medicine, not just the say so of a male legislator) leading to:
The visual of the all male panel for Issa's hearing which specifically excluded the one representative of the Dems, the only woman who would have been on the panel, because she was "unqualified."

Then Limbaugh topped it off by attacking and slandering the very likeable, articulate, intelligent, and everyone's daughter Sandra Fluke.

And there have been lots of other things happening around these central events -- like implementation of Texas's anti-abortion legislation and the ugly story that generated, the constant harping on women by the same Catholic bishops who protected child-molesting priests, the spectacle of all the Republican potential nominees embracing an anti-woman agenda with the added fillip of Santorum saying contraception was just so so wrong, the steadily increasing number of states enacting anti-women legislation, and most recently, the governor of the great state of Pennsylvania (as Rachel Maddow would term it) saying women should "just close their eyes."

We're not perfect, but they're nuts! -- Barney Frank

    •  Your right too (0+ / 0-)

that actually, Rush was very worked up about the Komen situation and getting angry about it on air when the contraceptive issue/debate came up, so I really do think it fueled his inner misogynist and sent him over the edge.
