    Hispanic originally it meant anyone from the Iberian Peninsula (Spanish or Portuguese) or someone whose native language was Spanish or Portuguese.  Today, the term seems to be used in many different ways and for different purposes, to the point where it is close to meaningless.  For me, anyway.

    Just as being a native speaker of English doesn't mean shared racial or ethnic heritage.
