      I figured I'd make some for "extra credit". In the last two weeks then I've turned a gallon of heavy cream into butter. For about $10 (9 pints of hv cream + some sugar and flavorings) I get about 1.75 pounds of butter and 1.5 quarts of ice cream ... which would cost about $11. So a bit cheaper and a bit tastier = a pretty good deal. I think I am done buying commercial butter,

        ...but I just buy unsalted butter.

        NO butter here is as good as the worst butter in France.  It has to do with the butterfat levels.  If you live in a decent city like New York, you can find "European style" butter, and that's REALLY tasty.

        But I can't easily find it, so I just go with unsalted, inferior American butter.
