I don't think the text itself is off-putting, but it feels wrong to have the title say, "Trayvon Martin is my Son."

We occasionally see diaries with misleading and sensational titles, like "I was assaulted" about how someone wasn't assaulted, but it sure got you to click through, dinnit?

At best, this practice is a sneaky way to get more page reads.  Here, I think it's unethical because it tricks a bunch of people into clicking through to see a statement from the victim's parents.

As I said above, it's also off-putting for a media web site like Kos to then feature the title in its Community Spotlight.  Maybe the diarist should consider keeping the text and changing the title to something less sensational.

Linking to a news article is journalism in the same sense that putting a Big Mac on a paper plate is cooking.

I have a great deal of empathy towards any parent whose child has been killed, but when another parent's child is killed, one of the things I know is that I do not in fact know the true extent of that person's desolation; I can only guess at it. To say that I do know it, having not experienced it, I think diminishes the other person's pain.
