    But I didn't tell anybody about it but my father, and in a flash-forward moment he channeled Butthead when he ridiculed my recitation of the title. Kind of like: "...he said 'Black Like Him', Beavis...". In 1961 Houston, that was about as kind and understanding a reaction as I would have expected from friends and family elders. But at the age of 12 (which I was that year), it helped me see why racism is stupid. A very much under-appreciated book, I think.
